Before we get started, check out ‘what NOT to do’ with the last video HERE
Are you ready to get your query (and, therefore, your manuscript!) noticed for the right reasons? Just watch the video above or look at the quick wrap up below, but whatever you do, make sure you get this step right. Pretty please?! (psst…all the agents and publishers are willing you to get it right, too)
My top tips for a fab query:
Finish the manuscript! While there might still be some exception to this, that is precisely what they are…exceptions. By and large, agents and pubs want you to present them with a finished manuscript. Plus, finishing before your query shows that you are TRULY passionate about your writing (and not just waiting for a ‘payday’ as motivation to finish what you’ve started)
Make your synopsis sing… No joke, this is where you have to be so very in touch with your manuscript. We’re looking at tightening your elevator pitch to 100-200 words only. Yep, that’s it. There are some great resources to help you do this, so head over to Google and get to work.
Research the agents/publishers, please! This is not the time to ‘wing it’. Show the agents/publishers you choose to work with, that you know WHO they are, WHAT they like and HOW they want you to submit. I’ve included my best spots for snooping in the video, so if you need direction, check it out.
